As we all know, growth is not linear.
I’m sharing two versions of the same text of the Bible because once broken down, it’s truly beautiful. (The second passage is paraphrased).
“In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirit’s mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
Romans 8:26-27 HCSB
“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”
Romans 8:26-28 MSG
There are a few things I noticed from the beautiful passage: 1) God’s Spirit is there, helping us in our weakness. That’s accessible. 2) We don’t always know how to pray correctly, consistently, or even clearly (our thoughts aren’t always clear). Too often we’ll treat God as a genie instead of being the Creator we can have a relationship with. It’s beautifully paradoxical but that’s what He offers. 3) Because we don’t pray correctly, He intercedes on Our behalf, translating our stupidness and somehow in the very little sense there is and we can make out, somehow we become worthy to be associated with His perfection. 4) This Spirit knows our hearts and minds as well as the Father’s Heart and Mind. 5) lastly, He does so (all of this) in accordance with His will, the best thing for us.
You wouldn’t think that, Us, being immature mentally, choosing depression, choosing sometimes to remain stuck without growing, would still be growing. But we are, the pains of the little things we constantly deal with, are still creating growth. We’re still growing even there.
I think that’s beautiful. 💛
